Amicus Curiae Brief by Amnesty International in the Request for an Advisory Opinion on “Climate Emergency and Human Rights” submitted by the States of Chile and Colombia before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights

In order to contribute to efforts to respond to the climate crisis, Amnesty International submits this amicus curiae brief for the purpose of providing the Court with legal considerations on human rights and climate change, addressing four questions posed by the States to Inter-American Court of Human including, regarding State obligations to preserve the right to life and survival in relation to the climate emergency in light of science and human rights. In particular, what is the scope that States should give to their obligations vis-à-vis the climate emergency, in relation to the determination of human impacts, such as human mobility (migration and forced displacement)?
